The Collegio Carlo Alberto, a private foundation established in 2004 by the Compagnia di San Paolo and the University of Torino (Italy), is inviting applications to five Carlo Alberto Chairs, one in each of the following broad areas
- Sustainable Growth
- Development, Scarcity, and Poverty
- Demography, Labor Issues and Social Policy
- European Governance and Public Policy
- Industrial Organization and Innovation
The goal of the Chairs is to contribute to the scientific growth of the Collegio by hiring distinguished scholars worldwide.
Description
Carlo Alberto Chairs pay competitive salaries and provide research support. Depending on a candidate’s qualifications and constraints, Chairs can be offered for a fixed term (one year minimum), or on a permanent, tenured, basis.
Candidates are expected to be either senior or advanced junior scholars with an internationally recognized academic reputation for excellence in research in their fields. They will play a leadership role in the institutional development of the Collegio, by actively contributing to its academic quality, to the deepening of its scientific strengths, and to the widening of its research focus.
The Collegio
Located in Moncalieri (on the outskirts of Torino), the Collegio shares the values and best practices of the international scientific community. It competes with the best institutions in Europe for research and teaching in Economics and the Social Sciences.
The Collegio promotes a mix of applied, policy-oriented, and theoretical research. It offers highly selective honors programs (BA and MA, taught in English) in Economics, and hosts doctoral programs of the University of Torino. Very active seminar series, lecture series, and conferences make the Collegio a dynamic and cosmopolitan research environment.

Starting June 2009 and until posts are filled, a hiring committee will review applications received in late February, June, and October. Therefore, candidates should preferably submit their applications by February 15th, June 15th, or October 15th of each year. Short-listed candidates will be invited for an on-site interview and seminar.
